2nd Annual Book Sale Fundraiser

TFRC is holding our Book Sale fundraiser Thursday September 18 from 6 -8 pm, Friday Sept. 19 from 12 8 pm, and Saturday from 9 – 12 in the basement of the Sackville Public Library.  Donations are gratefully being accepted at the Library beforehand.  Hope to see you there!!

Summer 2014 Free Programs!!


Garden Sprouts has a small change to its programming schedule.  Tuesdays will be at the Sackville Community Garden on Charles Street from 9:30 – 11, then will be moving over to Salem Elementary School on Thursdays from 9:30 – 11.  Drop in and help tend the existing raised bed and help build more!

Prenatal Classes

In partnership with the VON, TFRC is offering prenatal classes starting January 16th for 8 weeks.  Classes will be held at the Sackville Memorial Library in the Boardroom from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.  Please pre-register through phone at 939-8372 or email

Kids Have Stress Too

Wednesdays January 8th, 15th, and 22nd at the Sackville Public Library from     7 – 8:30 pm.

Developed by The Psychology Foundation of Canada, the Kids Have Stress Too! Program helps parents and caregivers understand childhood stress and how to provide children with the tools to deal with stress effectively. It is a broad-based primary prevention program which provides parents, caregivers, and communities with the knowledge, awareness, and skills to help young people become healthier and more resilient through learning how to manage their stress.

The classes will be facilitated by Denise Miller, Regional Community Worker from the Canadian Mental Health Association.  As a follow-up to the classes TFRC will be hosting a one day “Train the Trainer” workshop for any community member wishing to facilitate the classes in the future.  Participation in the 3 part classes is mandatory to receiving the “Train the Trainer” workshop.

Family Literacy Day: January 25th from 5:30 – 7:30

Salem Elementary School

Join us in Family Literacy Day celebrations.  This year’s them is “15 minutes of Fun.”  We’ll have a variety of literacy based activities that you can do with the whole family in just 15 minutes.  Joining us for a book-binding activity will be the Owen’s Art Gallery.  Of course, no Friday evening event would be complete without pizza, so no need to worry about rushing home after work, just come on out!  Hope to see everyone there.

Agricultural Field Day

Where: Doncaster’s Farm – Main Street beside the Drew Nursing Home

When : September 22 All Day

Agricultural Field Day takes place during Sackville’s Fall Fair every year.  Originally started by Bud Doncaster to bring farming back into our everyday lives it has been carried on in Bud’s memory since his passing by a dedicated group of friends and family members and grown to over 5000 visitors.  The TFRC will have family activities, old fashioned games, and door prizes.  There’s something for everyone!

Yoga in the Park

Where: Bill Johnstone Memorial Park ( on the play structure side)

When: Starts July 19 from 10 am to 11 am, and every Thursday until August 30

This summer join Leanne Laracey of Nava Yoga for Free Family Yoga in the Park! Together we will become animals such as lions, cranes, cats, dogs, and eagles! We’ll become dancers and archers! We’ll salute the summer sun, share stories, paint faces and have lots of fun! Yoga provides a great path for children (and adults!) to become more aware of themselves- through the body, breath, thoughts and emotions. Although classes are designed for children aged 4-14, accompanying parents or guardians are also welcome to participate.

Sackville Sprouts Garden Club

Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 at the Sackville Community Garden starting June 26 and running through to August 28

The Sackville Sprouts Garden Club is a drop-off program geared towards teaching children ages 7 – 10 about gardening, how to grow food, and exciting ways to interact with plants and nature in general!

If your child is under 7 please feel free to register them  – with adult accompaniment required.

MAY 27th – Tree Planting Extravaganza

The TRFC and Sackville based, Community Forests International, will be co-facilitating a TREE PLANTING EXTRAVAGANZA. Kids, caregivers and individuals alike can learn how to plant trees, play games, enjoy a BBQ and win prizes; all the while tending to our collective future by investing in Mother Earth!
